I Am Still Alive
June 20th, 2006The artist On Kawara used to send out telegrams to friends each day that read, “I am still alive.”

I wish that that is what this blog could be—just a daily reminder of my existence. It would make things a whole lot easier. Instead, I actually have to think stuff up to write about.
Any ideas?
For instance, I recently bought a navy-blue shirt from American Apparel and then proceeded to bleach part of it. Could I write about that?
I posted an obnoxious post on the Channel 102 forum that I now regret. What about that? Could that be a post?
I had a hamburger made from grass-fed organic beef and it was strange tasting. Do you want to hear more about that?
Anyone?

Your 102 post was hilarious.
I appreciate that you go to the trouble of putting photos in most of your posts. I want to do that from now on (but I won’t).

That’s funny because usually when I check your blog–like right now, for instance–it is in the spirit of checking if you are still alive.
If you’re going to write about any of those topics, i vote for the organic beef. I imagine it would taste GRASSY.

Are you still alive?
June 29th, 2006 at 3:27 pm
yes.
I’m posting a new thing now. For some reason, I haven’t wanted to post anything.
Hear are some of the things I could have posted about:
1. My ears are clogged with wax.
2. I went to the doctors for the first time in ten years.
3. Sexual Intercourse American Style continues, triumphant.
4. I am out of money and depressed

Well, if it helps any, I’m a bit depressed myself, because the blogosphere has felt toxic for several weeks; and because I use the word “blogosphere”; and because I just read Seymor Hirsch’s latest piece on US plans for attacking Iran. On the up-side, Sue and I watched a super cool nature documentary about “Coco Island” (sp?) followed by Terrence Mallick’s “The New World” — which was not as good as his 1st three films IMHO but not half bad. The best thing about Terrence Mallick Films is that the next day I walk around pretending that I’m having Mallick-like thoughts in the form of voiceovers that other people can hear: “What is this world?” “What can *I* do for her? She drifts on the river” etc. Maybe docs character could say some shit like that in his head as a voiceover…
ANY-hoo,
Your bruddha

[...] Right on as usual, blogger Mitch Magee compares blogging to artist On Kawara’s telegrams which read, “I am still alive.” [...]

i just found a blog that is a darker, more existentially fraught version of On Kawara: http://whatjeffkilled.com
Or, maybe just a feline version of On Kawara.
(you have to click to see the daily entries which makes sense once you see them.)

I have an idea, I like to check mac rumor websites (www.appleinsider.com, etc). Since Steven Jobs runs a tight ship there aren’t any real rumors so the sites often times just make things up to keep traffic up.
What if you made up one apple rumor every day?
I’ll give you your first rumor: Steve Jobs is buying the MET and will be putting all of the art for free on the new widescreen iPod. Over to you …
