I guess Mark is right: I have to go buy $500 shoes. But will they really last 20 years? I'd take 10. I want an LL Bean guarantee from a shoe that doesn't look like LL Bean. Maybe LL Bean makes dress shoes? I have to go look.

I broke down and bought a pair of cydwoqs, so we'll see how those do.

Hate to break the news, but it is a lesson I have come to learn: expensive ($500) shoes go the distance. Time and again I have bought less expensive, nice-looking shoes only to find that they fall apart after one year. Good shoes last 20 years (need to always put cedar shoe trees in them though). So, put your money into a pair of quality shoes - it pays.

Wow, was that ever a funny commentary on shoes! I mean, hah-ha, wow, phew, cracks me up. Shoes are funny.

1949 was the year the Soviets tested their own atom bomb. I wonder if the 500 was built to withstand nuclear attack.

"Following The Boxer, Daniel Day-Lewis took a leave of absence from acting ... . He moved to Florence, Italy, where he became intrigued by the craft of shoemaking, eventually apprenticing as a shoemaker for a time while his exact whereabouts and actions were not made publicly known.[11] "

The one at my grandparents house, in the space where you put your own number, had the number represented the old way with a couple of leading letters.

I want to find the old AT&T of shoemakers. I am very unhappy with the fact that Kenneth Cole, Johnston & Murphy, and Aldo have all emulated the disposable phone market. I have bought shoes from these companies, and they have all fallen apart. I am thinking of cydwoq, but oh, how expensive! Then again, if I had a guarantee or even a strong sense that they would do me right, I'd buy them without pause.
