It's Sunday afternoon. I'm sitting at my computer, eating lunch, doing some work, and listening to NPR. But Jonathan Schwartz is on. I google "I hate jonathan schwarthz," and I find this blog post. He's so bad, and most of his problem is him having 8 hours of prime weekend radio time and filling it with easy jazz and covers of songs you don't care about by artists who don't have much value.

Back to work!

I was showing my daughter how to use the neti pot with a children's tea pot in the bathtub... It's been a bath toy for years. She said, "You said you're supposed to use sterile salt water Mommy." I told her that is true, but I just wanted to show her how funny it looks. I started to get a headache & an ear ache after that, which has increased for 2 days. Did I get a bacterial infection from the bath water? I used tea in my neti pot today (pau darco, calendula & other flowers & herbs) and got more fluid in my ears. Still working on the proper tilt & ear emptying methods. Thought y'all might benefit from my mistake... Don't use bath water!

I have been using the Neti pot for about 9 months now, once per day. With a deviated septum I had difficulty breathing at night, and was using nose spray (Afrin ) to keep my sinuses clear. I was hooked on nose spray for 25 years believing that I didn't have any options. The surgery I had on my nose helped for about a month. I was thrilled to discover the neti pot. It did take some practice to use properly. At first, like others, I turned my head too far and got water in my ear. But I was determined to stick with it. The temperature of the water is important for comfort. I make it a little bit warmer than lukewarm. It is really very soothing. I mix my own solution using 1/4 tsp sea salt and 1/8 tsp per neti pot. This has worked great for me as I can now sleep at night without having to take something. The added bonus is that I can be around people that have colds and I don't catch it from them. I highly recommended this to anyone with sinus problems.

I've never actually tried the Neti Pot, but I have heard great things. It is a simple concept after all, and all you have to pay for is the pot itself and the salt that goes with it. Are you going to buy one yourself? Cheers! Heather :-)

Thank You. Good to know I'm not alone. I can't imagine anyone in a desirable demographic wanting this much of this man. The only thing I have less patience for on the weekends is that Lake Wobegone show. So Awful. I agree that JS plays good songs occasionally, but he is himself insufferable. And the amount of time he is on the air on the weekends is just baffling. Fine, don't eliminate his show but could it be cut to maybe 2 hours on one day a week or something?

The original statement about black versus white artists is simply not true.

Black musicians heard on the show recently:
Ella Fitzgerald (I'm guessing the most frequently played performer after Sinatra)
Louis Armstrong
Billie Holiday
The three Coles: Nat King, Nathalie and Freddy
Sarah Vaughan
Joe Williams
Sara Jones
Dinah Washington!
Oscar Peterson
Miles Davis
(OK, you get the idea)

You don't have to love Jonathan, but where else can one listen to this glorious music with intelligent commentary? I love Bach and I love Gershwin, Cole Porter and Rodgers and Hart, as well as contemporary groups.

True music lovers will try to expand their horizons. Jonathan's show is one way to do that. What do you like, Mitch?
